According to a report, Mahmoud Abbas was re-elected as the president of Fatah, the palestinian party in Samaria on Wednesday during what was said to be Fatah’s first major conference in 10 years. Reportedly, themes were unity and a political refresh, but according to polls palestinians aren’t satisfied. According to the report, Mr Abbas has promised the first presidential and parliamentary elections in 20 years, but palestinians are said to be unhappy that his son, a business man is now on the ballot for a top party position.
Problems facing Fatah are
that Israel don’t seem committed to the idea of a 2 state solution and have built over 1200 new houses east of Jerusalem in an area designated as being part of the palestinian territories. There have also been many reports of an israeli government policy that squeezes palestinians who are resident in east Jerusalem and parts of Samaria to what is termed as area c in Samaria which is under israeli civil and security control.
