According to a report, Charles III of Britain will attend a commonwealth heads of government meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, two Carribean islands that form what is termed as an independent commonwealth nation, which means they can exercise control over their domestic and foreign affairs. Reportedly, almost all inhabitants of Antigua and Barbuda are descended from enslaved africans who worked on the island’s plantations.
According to a report, almost all Carribean island nations have a history of colonial plantations. Reportedly, thousands of people from Africa, England, Scotland and Wales were kidnapped and taken to work on lucrative plantations.
According to a report, Charles’s 8 day trip beginning on 27 October will be his first Carribean visit since 2021 when Barbados left the commonwealth and became the world’s newest republic. According to reports, he spoke at the transition ceremony and although he condemned slavery which was abolished in 1834 he failed to mention reparation.
