Nick Clegg, the future of politics and global governance

According to a report Nick Clegg, former leader of the liberal democrats who served as British deputy prime minister for five years has been Facebook’s vice president for global affairs and communications since 2018 and was said to be taking more of the workload from Sheryl Sandberg, chief operations officer who came to facebook from google and reportedly used the specific data of users to tailor advertising which made facebook highly lucrative. According to the report she failed to deal with criticisms concerning the company adequately and Nick Clegg who was said to have broken into the inner circle is taking on more of her workload.

A criticism of Facebook, a seeming advocate for free speech has been related to the organising of protests that sometimes go wrong. The challenge for Facebook is said to be navigating the political waters internationally. Nick Clegg is described as ambitious and reportedly sees the future of politics and global governance being at the interception of technology.

Nine year old girl raped and murdered

According to a report, locals and activists held a protest near a New Dehli crematorium where a nine year old girl was hurriedly cremated after allegedly being raped and murdered. Reportedly, nine year old Gudiya had gone out to fetch water. Her mother was told she had been electrocuted after stepping on a wire, and to come to the cremotorium. She rushed to the crematorium and found signs of abuse on her daughter’s body.

According to the report Gudiya’s parents said that their daughter had been cremated to destroy evidence by the thought to be crematorium priest and other men even before Gudiya’s father could arrive.

The priest reportedly said, “Don’t make a noise, don’t shout, or else you will have to face a lengthy court case”. The family is of the Dalit caste. The caste system in India has changed. Reportedly four men have been arrested for rape, murder and wrongful confinement. The case has stirred new protests in New Dehli against grevious sexual violence.

Will the UK conform to eu protocol?

According to reports, most northern Ireland sea checks are suspended until the end of September. Reportedly, a British paper published in July seeks an end to all customs formalities including all sanitary and phytosanitary checks and certificates except for goods prelisted as being destined for southern Ireland. The uk are said to want British products not approved by the eu to trade in northern Ireland and to remove the european commision and the european court of justice from having a part in overseeing the protocol. Instead, according to the report they hope to set up their own international arbitration system to deal with any problems.

Reportedly London recently disclosed that 300 medicines currently entering northern Ireland will be discontinued at the end of the current period of grace.

Heroine arrives in Rosslare said to be from the continent

According to a report Britain recently demanded an end to new northern Ireland protocol agreed with the eu. originally designed as an alternative to a customs or regulatory border on the island of Ireland whilst protecting the single market and Ireland’s place in it. Less than two years into the protocol Britain wants to exempt goods destined for northern Ireland from all checks, and is reportedly questioning the oversight 9f the european court. According to the report the new protocol does not affect northern Ireland’s constitutional place as part of the uk, and includes a consent mechanism that allows Stormont to discontinue large parts of the agreement after four years.

According to reports, some border checks specifically animal and animal food products have been postponed, and Britain who have said they want to do their own checks or be involved in a dual authority have asked that the delay continues for an undefined time.

Ulster bank to amalgamate?

According to a report the AIB who have agreed to buy €4.1 billion of corporate loans are in negotiations to aquire an Ulster bank loan book worth €6.5 billion. Permanent TSB have reportedly confirmed that it intends to acquire 25 Ulster bank branches and €7.6 billion of mortgages and business loans. According to the report PTSB and Ulster bank are reportedly owned by NatWest, and PTSB have signed a memorandum that 400-500 Ulster bank employees transfer.

Iran, the nuclear deal and sanctions

According to a report, in the 2015 nuclear deal Iran agreed to limit sensitive nuclear activities and allow in international inspectors in return for the lifting of thought to be extensive sanctions. The plan limited Iran’s centrifuges enriching uranium until 2026. Reportedly the u.s. who were buying uranium from Iran pulled out of the deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions. Iran are said to have not stuck to the agreement since, thought to be due to the resuming of sanctions. They were said to have since been selling uranium to Russia.

The 2015 arms embargo allows the u.n. security council to monitor all conventional weapons bound for Iran, which according to the agreement have to be approved in advance. Permission is also required with regard to the selling of nuclear components, said to be based on end user guarantees. The eight year plan is due to terminate in 2023.

New minister for foreign affairs

According to a report the tánaiste has appointed Catherine Zappone, the minister for children in the former fine gael government as the new foreign minister. The position will entail being a u.n. special envoy reportedly for freedom of opinion and expression. The taoiseach and some m.p.’s were said to be complaining that the post wasn’t advertised, that there was no transparent process and no other applicants. Ms Zappone was reportedly recommended by former minister for foreign affairs Simon Coveney. According to a report the position will include giving the Irish government’s position in a variety of situations abroad but will entail working in a team with the u.n. Also said to be working with the u.n. on Irish human rights issues.

The u.s. and u.n. in Israel

According to a report, amid u.n. condemnations and sanctions against Israel the Israeli alternate prime minister and minister for foreign affairs has recommitted to nato, who reportedly police un. sanctions, in the areas of intelligence, surveillance, maritime and counter terrorism.

Reportedly the u.s. recommend equal rights for all with regard to security, freedom and opportunity, highlight a need for humanitarian and urgent reconstruction in Gaza and recommend a two state solution, though Palestinians live in two enclaves, not connected geographically, and are subject to two different authorities.
