Environmental report

According to a report, Action and compliance on eu environmental legislation have complained about public access to justice in Ireland, the penal and uncertain costs of bringing environmental court cases in Ireland and the targeting of non government officials.

According to the report, in an address to the Environment Ireland conference this week the directorate- general for environment official highlighted continuing problems with water quality and failures to protect nature.

Reportedly, Ireland is the most expensive member state in which to make an environmental claim before the courts. With regard to water, according to the report drinking water in many parts of the country is sub standard, and 50% of urban water is still not collected and treated according to eu directives.
