According to a report, thousands have signed a petition against the closure of Regina Coeli House in west Belfast, the north’s only hostel for homeless women.
The Regina Coeli, meaning Queen of Heaven was opened by the legion of Mary in 1935, accommodates 21 women and has provided support for homeless women and women suffering from addiction, trafficking, sexual abuse and domestic violence. Reportedly, the hostel has to close because the building requires work which is estimated to cost approximately €580,000.
