According to a report a symptom of autism in adults who may find communication with others problematic is that the reading of books might be more useful with regard to absorbing detail and thinking intrinsically, for instance thinking about the intentions behind the characters etc. The can be also true of other children, particularly those who might find it difficult to think intrinsically. Problems are that children can take on the characters of the book. Could be escapism and leaves the child isolated.
According to a communicator in autism, problems with communication sometimes occur because the individual can be needlessly intricate, not only with regard to communicating, but in their interpretation of what others are saying instead of taking people’s remarks at face value. According to one sufferer, her real self is only revealed in a so called crisis, when she runs the risk of over communication and deviating from the original subject again and again. It may appear to take a long effort in order to arrive at a similar answer to that which might occur to a non-autistic person.
