According to reports, members of the garda representative association which represents gardai have overwhelmingly voted no confidence in the garda commissioner. Reportedly, 98.7% of 9,013 votes were of no confidence in Drew Harris who has been in office since September 2018.
According to reports, the garda representative association general secretary said it was the largest return for a ballot in the history of the association. He said, “It is a loud and clear message that we as an association have lost confidence in the direction where policing has led in this country. It is now in the hands of the government to take action”.
