Two men accused of spying for Russia

According to a report, two men of dual russian german nationality accused of spying for Russia have been detained in Bayreuth, Bavaria. Reportedly, the men are accused of scouting military facilities and other sites, taking photos and videos and handing the information to a russian contact. According to the report, the main suspect is accused of planning an explosion, arson and maintaining contact with russian intelligence, the other is accused of helping him identity potential targets for attack, preparing explosives and arson.

Reportedly, the first suspect was alleged to have fought in eastern Ukraine from 2014-2016, it was alleged that since October 2023 he discussed potential sabotage operations in Germany with his russian contact. According to the report, a u.s. army base in Bavaria was spied upon, it was one of the bases that the u.s. sent battle tanks to for ukrainian soldiers to train on.

Reportedly, last year in Poland authorities said they had dismantled a russian spy network preparing sabotage attacks aimed at paralysing military aid to Ukraine. According to the report, Germany has sent Ukraine two air defence systems, has promised a third and have made available military aid worth €28 billion to support Ukraine over the next few years.
