Troops to build pier, Gaza

According to a report, on Saturday 1,000 troops set sail from a military base in Virginia to build a temporary pier in Gaza which has no functioning port and is surrounded by shallow waters. Reportedly, aid deliveries by land and air have proved difficult, five people were killed by a falling aid package when its parachute failed to open properly. According to the report, it will take up to 60 days to build the pier.

Reportedly, the aid ship, ‘Open arms’ was still waiting for clearance to set sail from Cyprus on Sunday morning following an eu announcement that a new sea route will be opened over the weekend to allow the vessel to sail directly. According to the report, a team from World Central Kitchen are building a pier to receive the aid. Reportedly, the u.n. said that atleast 576,000 people, a quarter of the population are facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity. According to the report, aid has been delivered via the egyptian controlled Rafah crossing and the israeli controlled Kerem Shalom but northern Gaza has been largely cut off from aid in recent months.
