With regard to compensation for former sufferers in mother and baby homes, problems with various epidemics during the 20th Century have not been recognised, nor has the cruelty of babies being ripped apart from their mothers, who then reportedly, if their families did not pick them up, were made to stay and used for slave labour in what was termed magdalene laundries.
