Reportedly the supreme court judgement that pac, the public accounts committee acted illegally in the treatment of Rehab manager Angela Kerine in 2014 is seemingly going to be a thorn in the government’s side, in that the intention is to change legislation and reform how oireachtas committees are run; reportedly via legal advisers to the oireachtas. A criticism voiced is that this will take away the power and independence of oireachtas committees. A secondary consequence is a claim for the payment of damages in view of the treatment of the once head of Rehab.
Supreme courts which have the power to supercede national governments are believed to have now been instigated globally. Could conceivably be useful when the government is erroneous, but the question remains, whose supreme court?
