Sensational reports fail to substantiate real cause for concern

According to news, mother and baby homes that were run by the state and church up until the 1990’s are to have their records sealed for thirty years, amid complaints. The reason being is seemingly a failure by some to read them academically. An example is the Tuam mother and baby home where human remains were found in the garden. The skeletons were exhumed and studied, the conclusion being the cause of death unknown. Rarely mentioned amongst many reports including apparently a specially commissioned one, many of which indicated abuse when the most likely cause was epidemics, usual at the time. The catholic church had a policy whereby certain members of the community were not buried in a graveyard as regular protocol. This included babies who weren’t baptised, although some since have been exhumed, honoured and reburied.

Another controversy and more worthwhile to consider is the taking of babies from their mothers, some having to grow up alone with no family support, some adopted out. A still unhealed wound in many cases.
