Teenagers were a phenomena thought to be of the 1950’s. Before, living with parents and helping parents was followed by marriage; didn’t normally convene. What changed was probably a mixture of culture and capitalism. A need may have arisen due to a perceived breakdown in family relationships, thought to be due to the effects of war and subjucation. Leads to a breakdown in civility.
One response to that need was capitalism in the shape of legal drugs. Fizzy drinks, sometimes containing what are now class a drugs lead to much revelry. Phenomena still exists in the form of illegal drugs. Lithium was an ingredients in some drinks as a calming influence to counteract the effect of other drinks. Introduced as slimming aids, phenomenon became unpopular as people became addicted and began behaving irrationally; one reason why drugs are hated irrationally, people’s behaviour when taking them can be above and beyond expected limits. Laws changed though the drinks continued to be a phenomena and drugs were passed on illegally. Mainly natural derivatives found in Bolivia etc.
Similar chemicals were made in the laboratory and prescribed by doctors. Their use as slimming aids has been curtailed but not before causing much destruction. Some chemicals are currently used in symptoms of child depression. Thought to be ADHD though the cause is almost never discovered. The solution is intricate and involves the whole family.
Culturally, youngsters attempted to find their own answers. Lead to the as called generation gap, new music replacing old ballads and sometimes an attempt to find new values, though not always. Disordered patterns have a way of continuing on, especially when similar drugs and drink are used as avoidance. Often exceed their parent’s limits.
Presiding cultures and those associated, seemingly having self interest tend to blame individuals according to circumstances, for example the unemployed, people with drug problems etc. Can become abusive and leads to misunderstandings rather than finding a solution that might help.
