According to reports, Paschal Donahoe has announced his resignation as finance minister and will take up a role as managing director and chief knowledge officer at the World Bank, an observer at the united nations group who make loans to developing countries.
Mr Donahoe joined fine gael in 2007 and was appointed minister of state for European Affairs in 2013. He may have been criticised for excessive borrowing following Brexit and during the covid crisis, especially as repayment terms following the first year were not laid out. Fine gael are in favour of a united Ireland but if Ireland can’t afford to pay back the loans this could be a British Ireland.
