French police officer shoots teenager at traffic stop

According to a report, a teenager of morrocan and algerian descent was shot dead at a traffic stop in Paris on Tuesday leading to protests and riots throughout France. Reportedly, the officer who shot 17 year old Nahel Merzouk has been put under formal investigation for voluntary homicide and is in prison. According to the report, the murder was caught on film by a passenger in the car who posted it on social media, saying he wanted to establish the truth. Reportedly, the teenager who was still living with his mother had recently acquired an electricity qualification, was a member of the Pirates of Nanterre rugby club and once appeared in a video along with french rapper Jul. The funeral was held on Saturday.

People of morrocan origin account for a large section of the population in France. Reportedly, many morrocans chose to emigrate to France following the french protectorate which ended in 1955, and during the 1960’s due to favourable economic conditions. According to a report, algerians emigrated during the french colonial era, many who supported France during the Algerian war were deeply resented by other algerians and fled to France following the war and during a post colonial opportunity gap from the 1960’s onwards, but tensions resulting from wars and exploitation in Africa and the middle east has led to wide spread protests, riots and racial discrimination.

The european presence in the Sahel

According to a report, the russian mercenary group wagner have been accused of atrocities in the Sahel. Reportedly, Washington based anti corruption organisation, The Sentry claimed that wagner have been perfecting a blue print for state capture in the Central African Republic in order to plunder natural resources, particularly gold and diamonds. According to the report, the CAR is one of the poorest and most fragile countries despite its natural resources.

Reportedly, the Sahel suffers from land degradation due to contaminated water, the u.n. say this is due to global warming, deforestation, industrial waste and agrichemicals such as pesticides. Not probable. It is possible that pathogens used to clear the land for mining have contaminated the water. Insect vectors have been used as biological weapons against against human beings, animals and crops, termed entomological warfare. Land degradation refers to the loss of the productive capacity of the soil. According to a report, over a third of the land in Burkina Faso is degraded and over 50% of people in Burkina Faso and Niger and 3.5 million in Mali lack access to safe water, a major cause of disease and death. Reportedly, an estimated 315,000 children die in Africa every year because of a lack of safe water.

Wagner arrived in Mali in 2022 adjacent to the french withdrawal. There have been suspicions concerning the exploitation of natural resources, particularly gold. Greek elections

According to the report, the previously ruling conservative new democracy party who hold 158 of the 300 seats in the Greek parliament are focusing on boosting annual growth, foreign investment, tax cuts and migration. Reportedly, a metal barrier along the border with Turkey was extended to keep out asylum seekers.

According to the report, the leader of the left wing syriza party served as prime minister from 2015-2019 but became a target for blame, his party is focusing on defending the health service and the welfare state .

Head of Wagner to be sent to Belarus

According to a report, locals cheered as wagner group troops left the headquarters of the southern military district in the city of Rostov-on-Don on Saturday. Reportedly, in order to defuse rebellion the head of wagner will be sent to Belarus, and the criminal case against him will not go ahead. According to the report, the wagner boss said he cannot justify the war in Ukraine as Russia was not under threat. There has been an exchange of fire between wagner and Ukraine for eight years, and in May a video was released of him standing among the bloodied bodies of his troops who had been killed in Ukraine.

Wagner take over russian army headquarters

According to a report, the kremlin has accused the leader of the wagner military group of staging a coup. Reportedly, the leader of wagner said his troops who are patriots and have the support of the russian people took over a russian army headquarters in southern Russia without firing a single shot. According to the report, the russian president described the move as a stab in the back. Reportedly, uk intelligence said wagner are movig troops and equipment towards Russia.

Hezbollah set up outpost in contested territory

According to a report, hezbollah has set up an armed military post a few metres into Israeli territory. Reportedly, Israel has been in dialogue with the united nations interim force in Lebanon in an effort to convince the contingents to withdraw. According to reports, the area where the position is set up is along the contested u.n. blue line which, in an effort to get Israelis to withdraw from Lebanon demarks the borders between Israel, Lebanon and the Golan.

The u.n. have had a presence in the area since 1978. The Lebanese civil war which lasted until 1990 was a battle between christians who had conjoined with the Lebanese army and shi-ite forces. Israel were involved on the christian side, perhaps because of a palestinian insurgency on behalf of hezbollah.

Reportedly, hezbollah functions as a proxy of Iran and is significant in Lebanon as a shi-ite political party and militant group opposing western influences in the middle east.

Ukraine, the eu and nato

According to a report, Ukraine has met two of the seven conditions required for the progression of their application to join the eu. Reportedly, the met conditions relate to the composition of two high level judicial bodies, and new legislation aligning the media to eu standards. According to the report, other conditions relate to corruption, money laundering and the oligarchy.

Reportedly, Ukraine applied for membership of the eu in February 2022 following the russian invasion but this may take some time, though the uk foreign secretary is supporting a plan to allow Ukraine a fast track to nato membership.

News Ukraine

Reportedly, Ukraine have struck a bridge linking Crimea to the mainland according to the russian appointed governor of Kherson. According to a report, Ukraine are hoping to scrap tax relief and exemptions introduced as a result of the russian invasion in compliance with the international monetary fund programme, the move which will be voted on at the end of June or July would generate $271 million in government income during 2023. Reportedly, Ukraine say their taxes cannot cover their military expenditure.

Deadly attack on school

According to a report, atleast 41 people including students have died in an attack on a school in Uganda. Reportedly, other students have been abducted and a dormitory was set on fire in the incident which police say was carried out by the allied defence forces. According to the report, the attack took place near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, 41 bodies have been recovered, some burned beyond recognition.

Reportedly, the adf have long opposed the rule of the ugandan president, a u.s. security ally. According to the report, the group was established in the 1990’s by some ugandans who argue they have been sidelined by policies brokered by the president, he has been in power since 1986.

Reportedly, in the past the adf have staged deadly attacks, including one on a school in 1998 which killed 80 students. It is not known wether the school had western credentials. According to the report, the results were a ugandan military assault which forced the adf into the democratic republic of Congo where many military groups operate and they made contact with islamic state. Reportedly, in 2021 the ugandan military launched air and artillery strikes in the drC against the group.

The british irish council

According to reports, the irish taoiseach was scheduled to attend the 39th british irish council summit on Thursday where he has spoken in favour of a return to Stormont. Reportedly, there were no representatives from northern Ireland because of the collapse of the power sharing institutions. The british irish council is one of two institutions founded by the Belfast agreement, the other being the north south ministerial council. The agreement has resulted in a demographic shift from northern Ireland to the south.
