According to reports, a 65 year old man has been killed and four people injured, three critically following a knife attack at a market in the port city of Haifa. Reportedly, critically injured are a man and woman and a 15 year old boy, another woman suffered moderate injuries. According to a report, the perpetrator who was killed was an arab resident who had returned to Israel after spending some time abroad. Reportedly, police believe the incident to be a terror attack.

According to reports, the first phase of the Israel hamas ceasefire agreement came to an end on Saturday. Phase two was meant to lead to a permanent ceasefire, the release of all remaining living hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. (It is believed that there are 24 hostages alive and 35 dead). Reportedly, hamas has rejected a u.s proposal to extend phase one for around six weeks to allow for negotiations, which Israeli had approved. According to reports, on Sunday Israel blocked all humanitarian aid into Gaza, saying hamas were stealing supplies and preventing the people of Gaza from getting them.

Ceasefire

According to a report, the militant kurdish workers party (pkk) have declared a ceasefire following their leader’s call for them to lay down their arms. Reportedly, their leader, Abdullah Ocalan who has ended forty years of conflict has been imprisoned in Turkey since 1999. According to the report, in a statement on Saturday the pkk said they hoped Turkey would release Mr Ocalan who has been kept in solitary confinement so he can lead a process of disarmament.

Reportedly, Mr Ocalan met mp’s from the pro kurdish party on Imrali, a Turkish prison island in the sea of Marmara, the pkk hope he can be released soon. According to the report, in a statement on Saturday they said that in order to pave the way for implementation of Mr Ocalan’s call for peace and democratic society they are declaring a ceasefire effective from Saturday, none of their forces will take armed action unless attacked.

Reportedly, the group have fought since 1984 for the cause of establishing a kurdish homeland, kurds make up 20% of the turkish population. Kurdish nationalism is a movement in favour of an independent Kurdistan from Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq.

European summit

According to a report, following the discussion between the u.s. president and the ukrainian president, president Zelensky told reporters that he thinks the relationship can be salvaged. He wrote, Despite the tough dialogue we remain strategic partners, but we need to be honest and direct with each other. I am grateful to the united states, for all the support. Deal

According to a report, Europe have provided 62 billion euro in military support to Ukraine and 132 billion euro in humanitarian assistance, the u.s. have provided Ukraine with 64 billion euro in military support and 114 billion euro in financial assistance.

According to reports, the ukrainian president meets the u.s. president in Washington on Friday, and Ukraine is expected to agree to the terms of a revised minerals deal. Reportedly, the new agreement does not include a commitment by the u.s. to provide security guarantees to Ukraine following any ceasefire deal.

Sudan

According to a report, the sudanese army say they have broken a seige imposed by the rapid support forces on El Obeid, the capital of the state of north Kordofan which connects the capital, Khartoum to Darfur. Reportedly, several parts of Khartoum have been retaken from the rsf by the army.

According to the report, there were celebrations in the streets as the army marched into the city. Reportedly, the finance minister said lifting the seige was a massive step in lifting the rsf seige of the capital of north Darfur and would allow the delivery of aid to Kordofan.

According to the report, the situation in El Obeid during the near two year seige was described as horrific with no medical or food aid. Reportedly, the army is advancing west towards the rsf. According to the report, recent fighting around El Fashir has compelled the medical charity Doctors without borders to terminate operations at a famine stricken camp nearby which houses about 500,000 displaced people.

Reportedly, the rsf who formed in 2013 and now control some of Sudan’s gold mines were accused of ethnic cleansing of the non arab population in Darfur, which they deny. According to the report, the united arab emirates have been asked to stop supporting them, and Kenya’s hosting of the rsf last week as they sought to form a parallel government was criticised, with Sudan recalling their Kenyan ambassador.

Reportedly, the war has resulted in 15,000 deaths, and according to the u.n. the largest displacement crises with 9 million people forced to flee their homes.

Minerals deal

According to reports, the French president met the u.s. president at the Whitehouse on Monday and the two took part in a virtual meeting with g7 to discuss the war in Ukraine. Reportedly, Ukraine and the u.s. are close to signing a deal concerning Ukraine’s mineral deposits, includes graphite, used to make batteries in electric vehicles and rare earth minerals, used in modern weaponry amongst other things.

German Election

According to reports, there was an 84% turnout in the german election, result as follows. The christian democrats or cdu 28.6% of the vote, alternative for Germany (afd) 20.8%, the previously ruling social democrats (spd) 16.4%, greens 11.6% and the left party 8.8%.

Reportedly, the christian democrats and their bavarian sister party, the christian social union will try and form a coalition with the social democrats (spd), the only alternative would be a coalition with afd which has been ruled out by Friedrich Merz, leader of the cdu. According to a report, the cdu agenda includes migration (Germany currently accepts more migrants than any other country in Europe) and unity in Europe.

Reportedly, Friedrich Merz who was born to a catholic family and joined the cdu when he was still at school, used to ride a motorbike and hang out by a chip stand. According to the report, following school he enlisted for military service, then studied law. Reportedly, Mr Merz worked as a lawyer before entering politics; he was elected to the european parliament in 1989 before entering the bundestag in 1994. According to the report, he decided to leave parliament to make room for reflection and pursued a career as a lawyer for more than ten years from 2009.

Pope Francis Improving

According to reports, pope Francis who is suffering from double pneumonia and bronchitis is being treated at the Gemelli hospital in Rome. According to reports,he has been in hospital for more than a week and is expected to remain there for atleast another week.

Reportedly, pope Francis has a history of respiratory illness, he had part of a lung removed as a young man and had a lung removed in 2023. According to reports, Francis who acquired the pontiff in 2013 has thanked people for their prayers.

The u.s., Ukraine and Russia

According to reports, the president of Ukraine said the u.s. president is living in a disinformation space following comments about president Zelensky’s approval rating which has steadily fallen since the start of the war.

Reportedly, Ukraine have rejected a draft of the rare earth minerals agreement with the u.s. saying it made no mention of security guarantees. According to the report, Ukraine said the cost of the war so far is $320 billion with $200 billion coming from the u.s. and Europe, the u.s. disputes this. Reportedly, the ukrainian military is reliant on u.s. weapons, and the ukrainian president wants the u.s. to be a part of an international security force agreed upon to oversee a ceasefire, but the kremlin said this is unacceptable.

According to a report, the french president is scheduled to host a second meeting with European leaders about the war in Ukraine on Wednesday via video link, around 15 countries are expected to take part.

Meeting in Riyadh

Reportedly, the four hour meeting between officials from the u.s. and Russia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was positive and constructive according to a Russian source. According to the report, an agreement was reached to appoint ambassadors to each other’s countries as soon as possible, to lift obstacles to diplomatic missions including lifting restrictions to bank transfers to embassies, to start the process on ukrainian settlement and to appoint representatives from each country to create conditions for restarting cooperation in full.

Reportedly, Russia’s foreign minister noted that president Trump was the first of western leaders to say that encouraging Ukraine to join nato was one of president Biden’s biggest mistakes, and the absorption of Ukraine into the alliance would act as a direct threat to Russia. According to the report, he said, Any appearance by armed forces under some other flag does not change anything.

According to the report, the russian president has said if president Zelensky wants to participate in the negotiations he will send people to take part, and the kremlin say the president of Russia is preparing to meet the Ukrainian president if necessary.
