Khalif Haftar lifts blockade after defeat in Tripoli

According to a report the Libyan blockade on oil has been lifted. A believed to be 14 month fight for Tripoli was reportedly won by the u.n. backed government of national accord despite thought to be Libyan leader Khalif Haftar having the backing of thousands of Russians. The defeat is said to be due to the intervention of Turkey who backed the government of national accord. The thought to be u.n. presence in many parts of the country is believed to provide security for the new government. A photograph thought to have been taken following a signing ceremony showed a presiding government shaking hands with Khalif Haftar. All are wearing covid masks.

Protests against covid restrictions

Anti-lockdown protests in Dublin are seemingly the subject of major policing operations according to a recent report. Reportedly the garda commisioner said that organisers of protests have been the subject of intelligence. Protestors appear to be disrupting Dublin port and various government departments with their queries, said the commisioner.

Anniversary of the death of Terence McSweeney

Terence McSweeney became mayor of Cork during the Irish war of independence. He died in Brixton prison, his wife Muriel, formerly Murphy did not believe it was suicide. After his death the u.k. authorities held on to his body. Muriel met with the u.k. foreign secretary regarding his death and remains. Two republican volunteers were mentioned, Richard Coleman and Pierce McCann who are thought to have died of disease whilst in prison.

The singer of opera and other songs Margaret Burke Sheridan would have been a contemporary of Terence McSweeney. In one of her albums she mentions the death of a compatriot. Would it have been Terence McSweeney?

Conflict in Africa

According to reports, protests concerning police brutality began early October in Lagos, following an incident that was filmed. Said to have involved a special anti-robbery squad who have been accused of extortion and murder. Members of the special squad reportedly dragged two men from a hotel and a man is thought to have been shot. Seemingly, protests about the incident were joined by anarchists. Two fires were reported, one in a prison, the other in a shopping mall. Protests on Tuesday evening ended in disaster as army personnel are believed to have opened fire on protestors at a plaza toll gate.Reportedly the Lagos state governor said that though some rioters have been causing mayhem, there is no excuse for the incident. He is believed to be ordering an investigation.

The Nigerian president since 2015 is also commander in chief of the armed forces. Nigeria reportedly form a substantial part of the u.n. presence in Africa, including Mali and the border regions with Niger and Burkina Faso which is the subject of criticism from other African nations.

According to united nations officialdom there is seemingly a u.n. presence in 54 said to be African states. The term state is defined in u.n. documentation as opposed to the term country which, by the definition they give, will exercise its own policies according to the national government. The u.n. presence in Africa is believed to deal with complaints and reportedly allocates candidates to u.n. bodies.

The problem of police brutality is also a current issue in the u.s. following the murder of George Floyd, an African american. The incident is known to have culminated in the Black Lives Matter protests, also accused of lawlessness. One view is the suitability and characteristics of members of the police who are expected to deal with sometimes volatile situations. It is thought that some army personnel returning from wars in the middle east and as called peace keeping missions in Africa, join the police but may not be suitable because of their experiences and training.

Supreme courts supercede national governments

Reportedly the supreme court judgement that pac, the public accounts committee acted illegally in the treatment of Rehab manager Angela Kerine in 2014 is seemingly going to be a thorn in the government’s side, in that the intention is to change legislation and reform how oireachtas committees are run; reportedly via legal advisers to the oireachtas. A criticism voiced is that this will take away the power and independence of oireachtas committees. A secondary consequence is a claim for the payment of damages in view of the treatment of the once head of Rehab.

Supreme courts which have the power to supercede national governments are believed to have now been instigated globally. Could conceivably be useful when the government is erroneous, but the question remains, whose supreme court?

Sensational reports fail to substantiate real cause for concern

According to news, mother and baby homes that were run by the state and church up until the 1990’s are to have their records sealed for thirty years, amid complaints. The reason being is seemingly a failure by some to read them academically. An example is the Tuam mother and baby home where human remains were found in the garden. The skeletons were exhumed and studied, the conclusion being the cause of death unknown. Rarely mentioned amongst many reports including apparently a specially commissioned one, many of which indicated abuse when the most likely cause was epidemics, usual at the time. The catholic church had a policy whereby certain members of the community were not buried in a graveyard as regular protocol. This included babies who weren’t baptised, although some since have been exhumed, honoured and reburied.

Another controversy and more worthwhile to consider is the taking of babies from their mothers, some having to grow up alone with no family support, some adopted out. A still unhealed wound in many cases.

European council supposedly representing the eu

Reading about more Brexit talks, funny that european council president Charles Michel is negotiating seemingly on behalf of the eu, when the european council is believed to be a uk construct.

Brexit talks are supposedly stalling on issues of governance, trade deals and fishing rights but with regard to fishing rights, why doesn’t each country have their own jurisdiction?

Ambitious oil and gas plans

Described as the most ambitious oil and gas plans ever seen in Ireland, reportedly three major liquified natural gas terminals off the coast of Mayo, Cork and Drogheda are being considered. A further plan mentioned is to build what was described as Europe’s largest gas storage facility off the coast of Cork. Reportedly the company involved is Predator oil and gas, and they hold territory licences off the coast of Cork and in Mayo near the corrib gas field where according to the report gas is declining. Predator hope to use 86% of Corrib oil’s infrastructure to pump gas ashore. The campaign group, Not here not anywhere are egnoring Europe’s need for oil at the expense of the shocking exploitation in Yemen, Iraq, Iran and elsewhere.
