Niger asks u.s. personnel to leave

According to a report, Niger’s military leadership has ended an agreement that allowed u.s. personnel to be in the country, there are around 650 deployed. Reportedly, this week the u.s. who have a base in Niger sent a delegation to Niamey for talks. According to the report, this was followed by a statement saying the u s. presence is illegal and violates the constitutional rules which require the people to be consulted on the installation of a foreign army on their territory.

Reportedly, in December the prime minister of Niger visited Moscow; referring to relations with Russia, Niger’s military spokesman said they are hoping to buy military equipment to fight against terrorists who have claimed thousands of victims under the indifferent eye of much of the international community. According to the report, an accusation by the u.s. that Niger made a secret deal to supply Iran with uranium was described as cynical.

Reportedly, there was a suggestion that the u.s. didn’t approve of Niger’s allies, and Niger has denounced their condescending attitude and threat of reprisals.
