According to a report, eleven west African nations from ecowas have agreed to commit troops for military intervention in Niger. Reportedly, the ecowas commissioner for peace and security said, “we are ready to go as soon as the order is given, but we can stand down the military option”. Reportedly, he suggested that an ecowas delegation could visit the country over the weekend in order to hold talks with Niger’s coup leaders.
According to the report, Niger has been hit by sanctions that have pushed food prices up 60% and resulted in 10 hour electricity outages.
