According to a report, General Tchiani who was declared the head of the national council for the safeguard of the homeland has announced the appointment of a prime minister, former finance minister and African Development Bank official Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeini. Reportedly, during General Tchiani’s almost 40 year career he has been trained at military academies in France, the u.s., Senegal and Mali. According to the report, he has served in u.n. peace keeping operations in Ivory Coast, Sudan’s Darfur region, the Democratic republic of Congo and an ecowas force in Ivory Coast. Reportedly, he was part of a multinational joint task force comprising of troops from Niger, Chad, Nigeria and Cameroon.

According to the report, president Tchiani who started out as an ordinary soldier is from the Hausa cultural group, his promotion under president Bazoum’s predecessor to take charge of the presidential guard was in 2011. According to the report, former president Bazoum is in sporadic contact with international leaders.
