According to a report, the u.s. secretary of state had a two hour meeting on Monday in Niamey with some of Niger’s coup leaders. Reportedly, she said that she was refused permission to visit president Bazoum who may be still under house arrest. According to the report, members of ecowas, the u.n. and african union are meeting for talks in Niamey on Tuesday. Reportedly, ecowas said they have further scheduled a meeting for Thursday.

According to the report, a representative of the new military government said on national tv, “Niger’s armed forces and all our defence and security forces, backed by the unfailing support of our people are ready to defend the integrity of our territory.”
