According to a report, thousands of coup supporters have gathered at a stadium in Niger’s capital cheering a decision not to respond to pressure. Reportedly, Niger has closed its airspace until further notice because of the threat of military intervention from ecowas following Sunday’s deadline to reinstate president Bazoum. According to the report, the coup, the seventh in west and central Africa in three years has rocked the Sahel region, one of the poorest in the world despite its riches.
Reportedly, Niger’s importance to the u.s., Europe and China is linked to uranium and oil. According to the report, over a hundred coup supporters gathered at an airbase in Niamey to offer non violent support to the cause. Reportedly, much of the emotion appeared directed at ecowas and France, France said they would support regional efforts to overturn the coup.
