According to a report, leaders of the coup in Gabon have named a transitional president, Oligui Nguema. Reportedly, the former president is under house arrest and some of his staff have been arrested on charges of treason, embezzlement, corruption and falsifying the president’s signature.
According to a report, Mr Ali Bongo Ondima was the third president of post colonial Gabon. Reportedly, his father who ruled for 41 years was said to have amassed a fortune. According to the report, groups of people were celebrating and shouting, “Bongo out” on the streets of the capital, Libreville. Reportedly, Mr Ondima’s main opposition, university professor Albert Ondo Ossa had accused Mr Ondima of fraud and asked that he hand over power without bloodshed. According to the report, Mr Ondima’s loss will mark a blow to France’s reach in Africa.
