New law against hate speech

According to a report, a new law against hate speech came into force in Scotland on Monday. Reportedly, the hate crime and public order (Scotland) act makes it an offence to stir up hatred with threatening or abusive behaviour on the basis of age, disability, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity.

According to the report, racial hatred was banned under a law passed in 1986. Reportedly, the law does not ban hatred on the basis of gender, that will be covered in a new law against misogyny. According to the report, the scots minister for victims and community safety said the new law will help build safer communities that live free from hatred and prejudice.
