According to a report, the eu will seek to freeze the foreign held assets of the russian president and foreign minister under a new sanctions package due to be finalised Friday. Reportedly, the move is largely symbolic as there is unlikely to be identifiable personal assets abroad, but it will be part of an attempt to highlight the eu’s resolve.

In a press conference on Friday, the secretary general of nato said, Russia has attacked Ukraine from multiple directions on air, sea and land, and could remove the democratically elected government. He said, Ukraine is fighting bravely and able to inflict damage.

Reportedly, nato are supporting Ukraine with equipment and providing many different kinds of support. He said, there is a probability of a significant nato response force presence in eastern regions, the measures preventative, and that nato are providing practical and political support.

According to the secretary general, cyber attacks could trigger article 5 of the nato treaty. Article 5 considers an armed attack against any member state an attack against all 30 members of the organisation.

He added that Russia had walked away from the nato Russia founding act on the point of territorial integrity, the principle under international law that prohibits nations from the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of another nation, and he called on Russia to withdraw forces. He ended with a reference to the european security order, which might lack equal rights. An approach to peace which might include sovereignty for Ukraine is non membership of nato.
