Morrocco earthquake

According to a report, a convoy of vehicles was seen driving up the High Atlas mountains piled high with mattresses, blankets, nappies and food for villagers who had lost everything. Reportedly, on September 8 Morrocco was struck by the strongest earthquake to hit the north African country for decades. According to the report, the earthquake killed more than 2,900 people, 5,500 were injured. Reportedly, in a country where there is no real social security and criticism of the government can lead to prison, people have learnt to rely on people to people solidarity.

According to the report, Saida Oujja a social worker and women’s activist whose family live in Asni, one of the hard hit villages said there is a lack of faith in the political leaders. Reportedly, a resident of the High Atlas mountains talked about Morrocco’s refusal to accept aid from countries like France. According to the report, even so the authorities have stepped up rescue efforts, King Mohammed VI has visited earthquake victims in Marrakesh university hospital and the army has set up tent camps and field hospitals.
