Hezbollah set up outpost in contested territory

According to a report, hezbollah has set up an armed military post a few metres into Israeli territory. Reportedly, Israel has been in dialogue with the united nations interim force in Lebanon in an effort to convince the contingents to withdraw. According to reports, the area where the position is set up is along the contested u.n. blue line which, in an effort to get Israelis to withdraw from Lebanon demarks the borders between Israel, Lebanon and the Golan.

The u.n. have had a presence in the area since 1978. The Lebanese civil war which lasted until 1990 was a battle between christians who had conjoined with the Lebanese army and shi-ite forces. Israel were involved on the christian side, perhaps because of a palestinian insurgency on behalf of hezbollah.

Reportedly, hezbollah functions as a proxy of Iran and is significant in Lebanon as a shi-ite political party and militant group opposing western influences in the middle east.
