According to a report, gangs are attacking businesses, setting fire to pharmacies and vandalising schools in Port-au-Prince. Reportedly, there was an attempted attack on the presidential palace on Monday, and armed men infiltrated the State university hospital of Haiti to use it as their command centre. According to the report, the hospital closed due to violence last month and was due to open on Monday. Reportedly, armed men looted a hospital and health centre in other neighbourhoods in Port-au-Prince, criminal gangs control the city’s roads.

According to the report, more than 53,000 people left the capital between 8-27 March, probably for the countryside which is not equipped to deal with such large numbers. Reportedly, the Transitional presidential council have promised to restore order.
