According to a report an extortionate letter arrived at the department of Agriculture, Dublin in August 1979 demanding a payment of £5 million to guard against the introduction of the deadly and costly foot and mouth disease to Ireland. Reportedly the ransom letter whichwas followed by other communication, letters and phone calls were undisclosed until recently.
