Hamas is said to have been founded in 1987 in Egypt. Probably recruited by sunnis. They are mainly militant and established according to reports to liberate Palestine, not recognising Israel. Hamas has been in control of Gaza since a war between the Palestinian authorities following Israel’s withdrawal from the area. The withdrawal plan resulted in the mandatory evacuation of, according to reports 8,000 Israelis. Some of whom did not wish to go.
The war between the Palestinian authorities is not documented. It lead to new authority not thought to have been voted in democratically.
Acts of terrorism, reported to include attacks on civilians and soldiers, and documented rocket attacks near the border have resulted in the Gaza blockade; believed to violate the civil rights of Gazans. Israel is said to control six of Gazas seven land crossings. No details apparent. Tunnels into Egypt were discovered, thought to be around 2014. Reportedly flooded by Egypt. No further details. The Gazan border protests of 2018 and ’19 demanded the right of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return, and an end to the blockade. The protests reportedly ended in violence. No protests as yet this year.
