According to a report Britain recently demanded an end to new northern Ireland protocol agreed with the eu. originally designed as an alternative to a customs or regulatory border on the island of Ireland whilst protecting the single market and Ireland’s place in it. Less than two years into the protocol Britain wants to exempt goods destined for northern Ireland from all checks, and is reportedly questioning the oversight 9f the european court. According to the report the new protocol does not affect northern Ireland’s constitutional place as part of the uk, and includes a consent mechanism that allows Stormont to discontinue large parts of the agreement after four years.
According to reports, some border checks specifically animal and animal food products have been postponed, and Britain who have said they want to do their own checks or be involved in a dual authority have asked that the delay continues for an undefined time.
