Conflict in Kosovo

According to a report, Kosovo has been urged to hold new elections in the north of the country which is predominantly habitated by serbs in order to deescalate tensions between albanians and serbs. Reportedly, serbs boycotted northern elections in April resulting in Albanians taking control of local councils. According to a report, the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia were invited to a european summit. Reportedly, the Serbian president accused the Kosovo leader of refusing to talk to him or enter into dialogue concerning what he described as sham elections in northern Kosovo. According to the report, a vice president of the serb party, Serb list said he would continue to support serbian citizens who are protesting until the Kosovo authorities meet their demands. being an end to mayors occupying municipalities by force, the establishment of special units and serbian protestors being released.

Kosovo has been annexed by the roman empire, the Bulgarian empire and became the centre of the medieval serbian state which brought eastern orthodox christianity. A later Ottoman empire resulted in the migration of albanians and the introduction of islam. The united nations security council resolution 1244 authorises an international, civil and military presence in the former Yugoslavia and resulted in the establishment of the United nations interim administration mission in Kosovo. There is still a u.n. presence today
