According to a report, following a u.n. resolution in 2022 the u.n.’s court, the international court of justice has opened a case relating to the israeli occupation of Palestine. Reportedly, if the court’s opinion is that the israeli occupation is illegal the icj may tell all u.n. bodies and nations they must do nothing to support or contribute to the situation. According to the report, if the icj issues a non legally binding opinion it goes to the u.n. general assembly who adopt a resolution.
Reportedly, other countries gave their opinion and the palestinian and many international communties’ argument was the palestinians right to self determination. According to the report, the uk asked the panel of 15 international judges not to issue an opinion because Israel has not consented to the process. Reportedly, this may be related to another case heard by the icj concerning the Chagos Islands when the uk gave the same argument, but the court found that the uk were obliged to end their administration of the Chagos Islands and judged the seperation of the Chagos Islands from Mauritius to be unlawful.
