Julian was evicted from the Ecuadorian embassy and subsequently arrested in March 2019. Two weeks earlier the then deputy national security adviser for intelligence, Richard Moore flew to Ecuador. A year or two later he was reported to be head of mi6, foreign secret service involved in covert foreign missions.
Earlier, in July 2018 Philip Barton, then said to be director general of security at the foreign office flew to Ecuador for what was described as short notice bilateral talks. A week after his return he attended government communication headquarters or gchq, reportedly responsible for providing signals intelligence and information to the government and armed forces. According to a report he now runs the home office. Gchq became the subject of media attention in 2013 when the national security agency controller revealed a secret security system which collects the data of most internet activity from fibreoptic cables with a view to possible future surveillance. He now lives in Russia.
Around September 2018 Ecuadorian officials were comandeered and flown to the uk for discussions with the British minister for the armed forces, reportedly concerning corruption and money laundering in Ecuador.
Defamation followed Julian’s arrest, and criticism of his treatment by the embassy that offered him asylum. There are worries about his treatment in Belmarsh. The possible use of medication etc. He should now be transferred to a European destination.
