Academics support judicial reform

According to reports, thousands have taken to the streets of Israel in protest of the government’s judicial reforms. Reportedly, police threw stun grenades in an effort to clear the Ayalon highway, Tel Aviv on Wednesday. According to a report, academics announced a petition on Thursday morning, signatories include professors, researchers and administrators from various Israeli universities.

Reportedly, the balance of powers was damaged by the High Court of justice’s 1990’s constitutional revolution. According to the report, the court has gained too many powers, including judicial review of basic law and increased scope of the reasonableness clause.
