The lifting of fuel subsidies in Ecuador is said to be the cause of days of angry protests by civillians. According to some sources this is due to a disagreement between Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Official sources say that civil unrest has led the Ecuadorian government to move base but President Moreno says that he is the victim of a coup.
In August of this year, executive order 13884 allowed for the blocking of all assets owned by the Venezuelan Government. Widespread power cuts in Venezuela have been blamed on saboteurs.
In March 2017, according to sources, a supreme court, the details of which are not widely known, attempted to strip the governing United Socialist Party of most of its powers. Both parties continue to meet in the same building.
